Moses Taylor Stroke Support Group Meeting
Moses Taylor Hospital Stroke Support Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the 2 West Conference Room at the hospital, which is located at 700 Quincy Avenue. The group is open to all stroke survivors and their caregivers.
Group facilitators are Colleen Dodgson, R.N., stroke program coordinator at Moses Taylor, and Justina M. Ferguson, M.S.N., R.N., instructor of nursing at Penn State Worthington Scranton Campus.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month. Topics range from physical and occupational therapy to medication, music therapy, nutrition and aromatherapy.

Keystone UNICO Flapjack Fundraiser
A flapjack breakfast fundraiser sponsored by Keystone Chapter UNICO will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Applebee’s, located in the Viewmont Mall in Dickson City. Lanterns for the Lost Princess
A paper lantern release will be held in memory of Kelcey Hallinan and Carissa Dartt at 9 p.m. on Friday, August 7. Gathering places currently include Dunmore High School and Sherwood Park, but all are invited to participate from any location.
Lanterns are available for purchase at Cara Mia’s on East Drinker Street, DePietro’s Pharmacy at intersection of 3rd Street and Wheeler Avenue and Lox Unlimited on the corner of Apple and Harper Streets. Lanterns will also be on sale on the day of the release at the Dunmore High School student parking lot. Each lantern will cost $5 and all proceeds will go towards the KelceyStrong and Carissa Dartt Scholarship Funds.
Sherwood Park Summer Festival
The Sherwood Youth Association will host its annual summer festival on August 13, 14 and 15 at Sherwood Park in Dunmore. The weekend festivities will be full of delicious local food and treats as well as games and entertainment for all ages.
Anthony & Rocco Italian Festival
Anthony & Rocco Parish is preparing to host their annual Italian Festival at the St. Rocco’s Church Grounds, located at 122 Kurtz St. in Dunmore. The festival will be held August 7, 8 and 9 and will feature food, games and live entertainment for the whole family. The grounds will open on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and on Sunday following the noon mass and procession. Festivities will close with a firework display Sunday evening at 9 p.m.

Laps for Lung Cancer
The Lung Cancer Alliance PA Chapter will be holding a Laps For Lung Cancer event at Montage Mountain Waterpark on Saturday, August 29, 2015, from 1-7 p.m., with the laps in the lazy river from 1-2 p.m. A percentage of all food and beverage sales from 3-5 p.m. in the Montage Slocum Hollow Restaurant will be donated to LCA.
In addition to the laps, there will also be a basket raffle on site with the sale of raffle tickets for the Shine A Light available.
Wristbands can be purchased in advance through any LCA representative or by calling (570) 604-4355. Wristbands will also be available the day of event at the left of the entrance. The cost of each wristband is $26.24, including tax. Children two and under are free.

Frank Farina’s Junior Shooting Competition
State Rep. Frank Farina, D-Lackawanna, will host his third annual Junior Shooting Competition on Aug. 29 at the State Game Lands, 300 Shooting Range on Archbald Mountain. In case of rain, the competition will be held Aug. 30.
The competition is for youth 10 through 18, with the following divisions: 10, 11-13, 14-16 and 17-18. Ten-year-olds will shoot from a sitting position only. Separate categories of competition will be held for shooters using open sights or scopes. Targets will be 25 yards.
Gun safety instructors, as well as local police officers, will be on hand to ensure proper use and shooting procedures and provide additional safety instruction to the shooters.
Pre-registration is required by calling Farina’s offices at (570) 876-1111 or (570) 342-2710 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or look for information on his web page,www.pahouse.com/Farina, to download the registration form. The competition is limited to 175 competitors. The deadline to register is Aug. 15.
Sign-in will run from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the day of the event. The competition will begin at 8 a.m.
All competitors must use standard .22-caliber rifles. No heavy barrel or competition guns are permitted and all guns will be examined for compliance before the competition.
Marywood University to Offer Transfer Opportunity
Marywood University will conduct an on-campus Transfer Day program for current or former college students considering transferring to Marywood University. In a single visit between 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, visitors can complete an application for admission, discuss financial aid and scholarship options, and transfer credits. Transfer Day will be held at the Office of University Admissions in the Liberal Arts Center on the university’s campus. Fall semester classes begin on August 24, 2015.
Ss. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church’s 5th Annual Rummage Sale
Saint Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church of Olyphant will host their 5th Annual Rummage Sale on September 18-20 at the Parish Hall at 133-207 River Street in Olyphant. The sale will begin at 8 a.m. each day. There will be a raffle with donations from local restaurants, retail stores at the event.
