Dunmore Activity Hub for Seniors

State Representative Frank Farina hosted a Senior Fair at the Dunmore Community Center last month. The event was held Thursday, May 21, from 10:00 a.m. To 2:00 p.m.

There were a variety of topics discussed at the successful four-hour event. The topics included rehabilitation therapy, blood pressure screenings, chiropractic care, insurance information, diabetes care, assisted living programs, health screenings and other areas of interest pertinent to senior citizens.

May was a very busy month at the Dunmore Activity Hub for Seniors, 1414 Monroe Ave., Dunmore. A Chicken and Biscuit Dinner was held Thursday, May 14. The dinner was held from 5-7:00 p.m., with takeouts beginning at 4:00 p.m. The cost was only $8.50 for adults and $4 for kids.

All proceeds from the dinner went to the Dunmore Activity Hub for Seniors to benefit various programs offered.

There was an Intercultural Dance Program presentation held Friday, May 15. Light refreshments were served in the Community Room followed by the presentation in the gym.

“It was the winter without end,” said Jeanne Hugenbruch, executive director of the Dunmore Activity Hub and Cafe for Seniors. “April went out like a lamb, which should have been March’s job. We have no complaints though, as the flowers are blooming and the days are now lovely.

“Even the rainy days, this is spring’s way.”

Hugenbruch said the Alternative Meal Option is back. It is a little different, she said, but every day in May there was a choice of three entrees, a Special of the Day, a Vegetarian Special and an Alternative option.

“No other center provides so many choices.”

Other interesting new programs include Red Hat Ladies, Learn to play Pinochle, Pinochle Group, Learn to play Mahjong, Beginners Ukulele and Guitar, Making Brandies and Flavored Vinegars and Summer Supper Seminars which included topics of interest with a nutritious and tasty light supper.

Other activities at the Dunmore Activity Hub for seniors include bingo, chair exercises, Wordless Wednesday Games, dance with Vince Brust, Bible Study, Tai, Chi, speakers, blood pressure alternate Thursdays, volunteer time, sketching, ballroom dancing, oil painting, Stretchin’ with Gretchen and yoga.
